XBW 2008 3rd Christmas Biophysics Workshop on Organized Molecular Systems

This workshop series was originated in 2006 by Rudi Podgornik (Ljubljana) and Silvia Tomić (Zagreb) who have a very fruitful scientific collaboration in the field of polyelectrolytes. The fact that they had to meet at NIH, Bethesda, USA to start this collaboration, made them initiate these meetings of regional character, so others won't have to travel this far to find new contacts.
Christmas Biophysics Workshops concentrate on getting together scientists working in the field of biophysics and soft matter from centers in Zagreb and Ljubljana. However, the invitation is always open to colleagues from neighboring centres like Graz and Trieste.

Frontiers in Complex Metallic Alloys CMA-Zagreb'08

The international workshop „Frontiers in Complex Metallic Alloys“ was held from October1-4 at the Institute of Physics in Zagreb, Croatia. The workshop was organised within the framework of the European Network of Excellence „ Complex Metallic Alloys“ and sponsored by the Croatian Academy of Science and Art.
The members of the local organizing committee were collaborators of the MoSES program “Physical processes in materials with novel types of atomic and magnetic orders” (035-0352826). The workshop was financed mainly with funds obtained from the EU project and to a lesser degree to the ones obtained from the Croatian Academy of Science and Art and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Republic of Croatia.
More than seventy scientists, mainly members of the European Network of Excellence „Complex Metallic Alloys“ from abroad, as well as scientists from Croatia attended the workshop.
Original scientific papers presented at the workshop passed the regular reviewing process according to the criteria of the Croatica Chemica Acta and were published in the Special Issue of this international journal (Croat.Chem. Acta Vol. 83 No1.)
