We promote and support active interaction with students, including, besides the work on diploma theses, smaller projects, work on seminar works and works aimed for Dean's Award, etc.

SMALL PROJECTS

Using the scanning tunnelling microscope under the ambienthal conditions

PROJECT LEADER
:
dr.sc. Marko Kralj, Laboratory for surface science and supported nanostructures

COLLABORATORS
:
Ida Delač (student, PMF)

SUMMARY:
Scanning tunnelling microscope (PTM) method is a part of the Laboratory for surface science and supported nanostructures. Two existing instruments are used under the conditions of the ultra high vacuum, for investigations of nanostructures.
The goal of this project is the deign and the construction of the PTM instrument which would work in air or in solutions for studies of individual molecules and molecular layers. The main merit of this project is the production of a sophisticated instrument which would eneable systematic investigations of problems concerning biology.
