Nine job vacancies

1. Senior Research Technician (f/m) permanent position

The applicant should demonstrate ability to develop and implement technical improvements in the research laboratory, to co-author research papers and train junior technicians and early-stage researchers (Ph.D. students).

Mandatory Requirements: Completed Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study (Master’s degree) in Physics or an equivalent degree entitling him or her to embark on a doctorate, and enroll in a PhD School of Physics. An advantage is experience in CVD or MBE material deposition techniques geared towards production of 2D materials and experience with in-house development of CVD set-ups.

An application must be accompanied by a resume and a diploma or certificate of completion of the study, documents that demonstrate additional qualities of the candidate and contain one or more references.

Please submit applications for the vacancy until Aug 20, in Croatian or English, to the postal address: Vacancies, Institute of Physics, Bijenicka 46, HR10000 Zagreb, Croatia or by e-mail (as a single pdf document) to natjecaj@ifs.hr.

Applicants will be informed on the results of the tender within the legal deadline.

Ph.D. students – Early-Stage Researchers (f/m) for a one year contract (with a possible extension of the contract up to 5 years in total) in the research field of:

II.1. optical properties of graphene and related 2D structures, research to be performed within the Centre for advanced materials and sensors (http://cems.irb.hr/en/)

II.2. Frequency-Comb-induced OptoMechanics, research to be performed within MeCombO project (http://cold.ifs.hr/research/research-2/)

II.3. Laser – Cold Plasma Interaction And Diagnostics, research to be performed within LaCPID project (http://lacpid.ifs.hr/)

Ph.D. student – Early-Stage Researcher (f/m) for a two year contract (with a possible extension of the contract up to 4 years in total) in the research field of:

II.4. Strongly Correlated Electrons in Layered Organics and Manganites: Low Frequency Excitations and Non-linear Dynamics, research to be performed within SCEinLOM project (http://sceinlom.ifs.hr/)

Mandatory Requirements: Completed Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study (Master’s degree) in Physics or an equivalent degree entitling him or her to embark on a doctorate, and enroll in a PhD School of Physics. Priority will be given to candidates who have co-authored research publications, presented at international scientific meetings, have received awards, scholarships, etc. for excellence in studies.

An application must be accompanied by a resume and a diploma or certificate of completion of the study, documents that demonstrate additional qualities of the candidate and contain one or more references.

III.1. Research Associate (m/f), permanent position

We expect a candidate with experience in the field of surface physics and 2D materials, specifically, spectro/microscopic methods of surface science (ARPES, XPS, STM, AFM) as well as UHV systems. An advantage is experience in SEM or TEM.

III.2. Research Associate (m/f), permanent position

We expect a candidate with experience in the experimental femtosecond pump-probe  spectroscopy of low-dimensional systems with highly correlated ground states. An advantage is experience in studies  of electrical and thermal transport properties.

III.3. Senior Research Associate (m/f), permanent position

We expect a candidate with experience in theoretical modeling of collective electron excitations, optical properties and electron-hole bound states and quasiparticles in 2D nanostructures. An advantage is experience in computational studies by DFT combined with multiparticle perturbational theory that refers to RPA, to GW approximation used for quasiparticle calculations and to solutions to Bethe-Salpeter equation for electron-hole propagation in these nanostructures.

III.4.  Senior Research Scientist (m/f), permanent position

We expect a candidate with experience in experimental atomic and molecular physics, specifically the frequency comb spectroscopy and cold atoms.

Candidates must meet the mandatory requirements laid down in the Law on Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia and in the Ordinance on the job requirements of the Institute of Physics. Priority will be given to candidates who may present abilities in grantsmanship, project management and general willingness to align their research interests and base their future research on the infrastructure to be provided by the Center for the Advanced Laser Techniques (http://calt.ifs.hr) to be established at the Institute by 2020.

An application should demonstrate proof of mandatory requirements and of the experience of the applicant (at least two references should be provided) and preferably an outline of a work plan for a mid-term period.

Applicants who have a higher education qualification obtained abroad must enclose the document of recognition of foreign qualifications or the receipt for the application for the recognition of foreign qualifications issued by the Agency for Science and Higher Education Croatia.
