Institute of Physics, Croatia is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in a project aimed at probing of the cold atoms with femtosecond pulses.

Project Description

The Cold Atoms group explore novel phenomena that arise when the mechanical action on cold atoms is induced by femtosecond frequency comb (FC) excitation. We investigate various experimental geometries in free space, with a goal to extend our work to study FC-induced cavity optomechanics. We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in developing a system to investigate FC-induced forces on cold atoms in an optical cavity. The first task in the project is to design and construct an optical cavity which is matched to the FC, and to implement it to our cold atoms chamber. In the next phase, the system of cold atoms in an optical cavity excited by the FC should be characterized.

The appointment is for one year starting in the March 1^th 2017.

Competence requirements

The successful candidate should hold a PhD degree or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a PhD degree in experimental physics (or equivalent subject). Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than two years before the closing date of the application.

The applicant must have practical experience and strong interest in development of experimental techniques for laser cooling and laser manipulation of cold atoms.

The applicant should be highly motivated and have the ability to do research independently as well as a part of the research group. The candidate must be fluent in both oral and written English.
