Surface physics

Research within physics of surface physics includes experimental and theoretical investigations.

Main domains of research include:

  • Investigations of structural and electronic properties of clean surfaces, ultra thin films and assisted nanostructures.
  • Investigations of effects of electronic confinement in small metal particles and low dimension systems – quantum well states.
  • Structure and electronic properties of stepped (vicinal) surfaces and nanostructures built on them.
  • Structural and electronic properties of graphene on well defined surfaces.

Theoretical investigations are focused on:

  • Dynamics of electronic excitations on femtosecond time scale.
  • Dynamics of atomic and molecular degrees of freedom in nanosystems.
  • Interactions between excited degrees of freedom in nanosystems and decoherence of nanosystems quantum states caused by intrinsic interactions or interactions with neighbourhood.
